Salem is famous for so
many things like Yercaud the hill station, Mettur dam the power plant, Mango
the juicy fruit, Illampillai the aluminium, Namakkal the egg and so many other
things. For me Salem is known for its Selvi mess Parotta. Eating Parotta in Selvi
mess, is like watching RajiniKanth movie first day first show so much intense
emotion. Every Saturday night, I visit the hotel to eat parotta. Parotta is
made of wheat and oil which is not good for health so only I eat only once in a
week not daily. Saturday will be busy day for that hotel. But I go early, so I get
a place to sit and eat calmly without much noise. There are total five hotels
in and round salem, but I regularly visit hotel nearby hasthampatti. The hotel
got small parking space in front. Into that we get to see a small room with 6
tables, neatly maintained with bright light. They will serve parotta in a big
banana leaf (a south leaf used instead for plates).Moorthy anna always serve me
who is atleast fifty year old. Moorthy greet me. Every time I order two parotta
and wait till the server come back with parotta. Sever put to an ample amount
of KOLUMBU is colloquial name for the gravy which will be served hot and spicy,
kindle us to drink it.The parotta will be hot and crispy, so it is easy to get
a hand of it and dip it in the gravy slowly. You got enjoy this process. After
5 sec, swallow it. I will close my eyes. You
should not miss this. The taste in food will send some chilling feel into my
body and suddenly I will feel freshen up. Till then the moorthy anna wait for
my acknowledge like solider awaits for the king's order.After my smile
only, moorthy feel satisfied and leave the place for next order.
In the admist corona lockdown I missed my favorite
food and moorthy anna.
